ASEAN enterprises are at an inflection point. 69% of organisations now plan to invest in AI within the next two years — double the 34% recorded in 2020. But intent is outpacing readiness. Despite rising ambition, only 3.4% of enterprises believe their data infrastructure is future-proofed to support AI at scale.

The gap is real and measurable. 77.2% of enterprises cite data quality and availability as the single biggest barrier to AI implementation — ahead of skills gaps, integration challenges, and budget constraints. Simultaneously, 74.7% flag data privacy and security as their top concern about AI's impact, up sharply from 60.4% in 2024 as Malaysia's amended PDPA and incoming AI Governance Bill tighten the compliance landscape.

AI maturity in the region remains early-stage: 40.9% of enterprises are still piloting, and 31.8% are only exploring. The window for data and AI vendors to shape enterprise architecture decisions — on governance, infrastructure, and integration — is open right now.

"For TNB, AI is the next S-curve after digital. We've gone through the RPA and automation phase — now we are embedding AI into our operations. But we do it with clear purposes: revenue growth, cost reduction, customer experience, and efficiency. Every AI use case must hit one of these objectives, otherwise it doesn't go into production." Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan — Former CEO & President, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia
Top AI Use Cases — In Production or Near-Term (ASEAN %)
Customer Service Automation65.7%

Chatbots and virtual agents now the most deployed AI workload across BFSI, telco, and retail

Process Automation61.5%

RPA giving way to AI-native workflow automation across back-office and operations

Predictive Analytics49.6%

Sales forecasting, demand planning, and marketing attribution maturing rapidly

Fraud Detection & Cybersecurity36.6%

Rising alongside stronger data governance and regulatory enforcement across BFSI

Natural Language Processing28.3%

Translation, sentiment analysis, and document processing gaining enterprise traction

Dr Amir Samad
2025 Keynote Highlights

"Cyber security has traditionally tended to take a back seat when it comes to operational technology systems. That worked in the past because we had isolation between OT and IT, but that mindset has had to change… we have to take care to ensure those OT systems, which traditionally we didn’t pay too much attention to, are getting attention."

Dr. Siew Chan Cheong
2025 Keynote Highlights

"The hardest part of transformation is not the technology, it’s industrialisation. Ideas are cheap; you can have thousands of proofs of concept. The discipline is to pick one business line, scale it end-to-end, show that it delivers value, and then replicate quickly. That’s what moves the organisation from experimenting to truly becoming data-driven."

Maybank

Pedro Uria-Recio
2025 Keynote Highlights

"We see AI maturity in stages. First, make every employee more productive with basic tools. Then give them AI companions that augment their decisions. After that come autonomous agents that can operate safely on their own, and finally AI teams, systems that collaborate with each other. We’re not there yet, but we have to prepare, because that’s where the world is heading."
